ICTU TEAM MAKES IT TO THE TOP 20 OF THE IOT CHALLENGE 2026

The Organizing Committee of IoT Challenge 2026 has officially announced the list of the top 20 outstanding teams advancing to the Product Development Round. Surpassing numerous competing teams from countries worldwide, the ICTU team from the University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) has successfully earned their spot in the next phase of the competition.

IoT Challenge 2026 – An International Tech Playground for Students

IoT Challenge 2026 is a technology competition co-organized by FPT and Silicon Labs (USA) under the theme “Smart Healthcare with Edge AI.” The competition has attracted a large number of students in the fields of the Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems, electronics, automation, and information technology from various nations, including the United Kingdom, India, Hungary, and Vietnam.

During the Idea Round, which took place from May 5 to May 23, 2026, the teams underwent a rigorous evaluation process based on multiple criteria, such as creativity, practical applicability, technical capability, and product development potential. Consequently, the Board of Judges selected the 20 best teams to move forward to the Product Development Round.

ICTU Team Affirms Capability on the Global Stage

Representing the University of Information and Communication Technology, the ICTU team consists of students from diverse technical training programs and majors within the university:

  • Lai Van Thinh (International Information Technology) – Responsible for building the Dashboard, designing the Alert UI, compiling technical documentation, preparing presentation content, and participating in the Q&A session with the Judges.
  • Dinh Van Hieu (Electronics and Telecommunications) – Responsible for sensor circuit design, ensuring power supply stability, and assembling the system prototype.
  • Pham Van Huynh (Computer Engineering) – Responsible for embedded system development and implementing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity.
  • Ly Khanh Quan (Computer Engineering) – Responsible for system architecture design, building Edge AI workflows on the xG24/xG26 platforms, and integrating TinyML technology.
  • Dam Duc Don (Computer Engineering) – Responsible for developing anomaly detection algorithms, classifying risk levels, and creating emergency response mechanisms.

The synergy of diverse areas of expertise enabled the team to build an interdisciplinary solution, leveraging their strengths in embedded systems, artificial intelligence, electronic hardware, and software development.

Project Aims to Enhance Safety in Healthcare

The concept that propelled the ICTU team through the Idea Round is the “Smart IV & Patient Safety Monitoring System” project.

The solution utilizes advanced hardware platforms from Silicon Labs, combining TinyML and Edge AI technologies to detect early anomalies during intravenous (IV) fluid administration while sending real-time alerts via wireless communication networks. The project aims to improve monitoring quality and ensure patient safety in hospital environments.

Ready for the Product Development Round

After securing a place in the Top 20, the ICTU team has officially entered the Product Development Round, running from May 23 to August 24, 2026. During this phase, competing teams will be provided with hardware development kits by the Organizing Committee. They will also participate in intensive training programs and receive mentorship from experts at FPT, Silicon Labs, and university faculty members.

This is an opportunity for the team to perfect their product prototype, validate the feasibility of their solution, and aim for success in the Semifinals and Finals, which are scheduled to take place in September 2026 in Hanoi.

Making it into the Top 20 of IoT Challenge 2026 is the result of continuous learning, research, and innovation by the ICTU student collective. It further affirms the educational quality, applied research capacity, and international integration capabilities of the students at the University of Information and Communication Technology.

Congratulations to the ICTU team! We wish all members continued success in leveraging their expertise, solidarity, and creativity to achieve higher milestones in the upcoming rounds.
